The Granite Mountain Records Vault

372,685 Stake YTD Total (143,250 indexed & 229,435 arbitrated)
 52,062  Monthly Total (October 24)

In the early '60's the LDS church had an open house at The Granite Mt Records Vault at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon.   We were allowed to see where all the records being filmed around the world would be collected and stored.  Film copies would be made and sent to the FHL in SLC and FH Centers around the world.  This may have been the beginning of my interest in family history.  Not long after I took my first genealogy class at church.  Today one can't go into The Granite Mountain Vault unless you're an employee, but if you'd like to take a tour, view the movie first shown this last spring at the 2010 NGS National Convention in SLC.

This is where the digitizing of records take place so we can index them.
This is where the roots of
our great work begins!
