The Granite Mountain Records Vault

372,685 Stake YTD Total (143,250 indexed & 229,435 arbitrated)
 52,062  Monthly Total (October 24)

In the early '60's the LDS church had an open house at The Granite Mt Records Vault at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon.   We were allowed to see where all the records being filmed around the world would be collected and stored.  Film copies would be made and sent to the FHL in SLC and FH Centers around the world.  This may have been the beginning of my interest in family history.  Not long after I took my first genealogy class at church.  Today one can't go into The Granite Mountain Vault unless you're an employee, but if you'd like to take a tour, view the movie first shown this last spring at the 2010 NGS National Convention in SLC.

Go to:  Granite Mountain Records Vault, Part 1

This is where the digitizing of records take place so we can index them.
This is where the roots of
our great work begins!

Keyboard Shortcuts, FSI Newsletter & Facebook

360,443 YTD total for Sandy, Utah Midvalley Stake

Today's FSI Newsletter had two inspiring stories which were so uplifting.
The FSI newsletter can be read at:  http://eepurl.com/bljRT
Keyboard shortcuts link for quick reference:
https://fch.ldschurch.org/fsinformation/Training/Indexing_Shortcuts.pdf

Join FSI on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/familysearchindexing
Please share your indexing story on this
"Indexing Joy" blog.

*My personal favorite quick tip is to use "Ctrl" and the mouse to move the "Highlights" to the place I want them.
Then use a left click to match the four corners to the form.
**Another personal favorite is when typing in columns place your answer in #1 or wherever you are, then right click and choose "Ditto Fields Below.
This works well for "Line", "Color", and sometimes "Places" if most are the same.
It's especially good when you get several blank lines together.

Indexing Joy

With indexed records bringing great joy to many this is a place for sharing the joys of being an indexer.  Anyone who has searched through many rolls of microfilm, fische, or books know what a wonderful blessing it is to find a name and record almost instantly, because someone cared to index the records.  Thankful prayers have been offered for record keepers with insight to make an index, use beautiful, easy-to-read handwriting, or make the record so complete that important information was found.
Now we can help others, too.
Here's to all who find joy and a sense of accomplishment in indexing.
Share your joys of indexing!
